Navestock Bramblings

Went to Navestock this morning. Navestock is a civil parish in the Borough of Brentwood in south Essex. It is located approximately 5 km (3.1 mi) northwest of the town of Brentwood and the M25 motorway cuts through the western edge of the parish. It covers an area of in excess of 1800 hectares (4500 acres) and had a population of 510 in 2001, increasing to 585 in 2011. The name means ‘the stump on the headland’, which reflects its topography and landscape.

In some of the stubble fields on either side of Church Road, a good number of birds were feeding. Mainly Bramblings (300), Chaffinch (60), Stock Dove (40), and a couple of Yellowhammers. Also seen were Mistle Thrush, Redwing, and Fieldfare. A Red Kite flew over on arrival. Also, a single Fox sauntered across the field while five Fallow Deer appeared opposite me. The fields were quite large and the birds were always feeding a distance away and very flighty making photography almost impossible!
