A walk from the small car park down to the river then up and over the landfill site to the serin mound. Walked then as far as the Marshland Discovery Zone on the nature reserve before retracing my steps back to the car park. Highlights were my first Swift of the year with two over the landfill, as was a single Sand Martin.
At least eleven Bar-tailed Godwits in Aveley Bay all in various stages of plumage from still in winter to a couple in full summer plumage with their brick-red underparts. Normally along the River Thames, there are just Black-tailed Godwits but at this time of the year, there are often a few Bar-tailed passing through. Unfortunately, the tide was just turning to come back in and the birds were distant looking into the sun, so heavily cropped images!
On the landfill were a pair of Wheatear with a second male along the river tideline. Four Mediterranean Gulls were calling and circling high over the seawall. A pleasant walk in the warm sunshine.
